Norwegian company Misje Eco Bulk AS collected its second vessel “Misje Verde” of the series of 5000DWT Eco Bulk Carriers as Colombo Dockyard PLC (CDPLC) ceremonially delivered the vessel on 21 April at the Guide Pier of the CDPLC premises.

While the first vessel delivered continues to receive many positive remarks from the European clientele, the delivery of the second vessel yet again shows the remarkable resilience of the Colombo Dockyard under severe economic constraints both domestically and internationally and expected to please the customers in the years to come.

The occasion was graced by the presence of Misje Eco Bulk AS Chairman Roald Misje, CFO Alina Printseva, Thusitha Herath, Prince Dharmarajan, Venura Wanasinghe and Alexey Belousov Owner representatives, vessel crew and the DNV Country Manager Saman A. Kumarasinghe.

From CDPLC side Chairman Hideaki Tanaka, MD/CEO Thimira Godakumbura, Director J. Furukawa Technical Advisor/Alternate Director Nozaki and a host of other senior management and staff were present.

CDPLC delivered the first vessel of the series in September 2022 and the second vessel was launched on 23 January of this year where total outfitting took less than three months.

The 89.95 m DNV classed Eco Bulker was designed by the Wartsila Norway, and detailed design was carried out in house by the CDPLC design team. The vessel comprises Energy Storage Battery System (ESS) for Electric Hybrid Propulsion on top of the conventional diesel propulsion facility.

Misje Eco Bulk AS, Norway (Misje) is the very first European client of CDPLC and this project too illustrates CDPLC’s reputation in the European market with the brand “Built in Sri Lanka blending Sri Lankan technology with Japanese quality” receiving high recognition and acceptance in Europe market.

CDPLC operates in joint collaboration with Onomichi Dockyard Company Ltd. of Japan with a 35% stake by Sri Lankan Government institutions. Expanding its business nearly five decades, CDPLC is the frontrunner of Sri Lankan industrialisation as the leading contributor to the national export earnings from the shipbuilding sector.
