Govt. Extends Coal Transportation Contract Between CSC and India’s Shreeji Shipping
The Cabinet of Ministers last week approved the extension of the agreement between the Ceylon Shipping Corporation and Shreeji Shipping of India by another year for the utilisation of light barges in the transportation of coal.
The agreement, which spans from the year 2023/24 to 2024/25, aims to facilitate the seamless transfer of coal from the mother ship to the jetty of the Lakvijaya electricity power station. This extension comes after Shreeji Shipping successfully fulfilled the previous contract, which covered the transportation of coal during the years 2021/22 and 2022/23 from harboured ships in the Puttlam port to the Lakvijaya coal power station’s jetty. The company’s efficient and reliable services during this period have prompted the decision to extend the agreement.
