SriLankan Aviation College, the training arm of SriLankan Airlines, successfully gained NVQ Level 6 status under the National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) framework.

The NVQ accreditation will increase the national recognition for the programs offered by SriLankan Aviation College and enhance the career prospects of graduates by validating their occupational competence.

The NVQ accreditation certifies that a course is on par with a Higher National Diploma in technical and vocational training and will also enable local students to laterally enter graduate programs in related disciplines. SriLankan Aviation College took steps to obtain the accreditation, having appreciated the immense significance of being NVQ qualified for students.

SriLankan Aviation College embarked on the process of implementing National Competency Standards for the courses in consultation with the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC), which is a prerequisite for NVQ accreditation. The College’s efforts were rewarded, when its EASA part 66 Basic Course in Aircraft Maintenance and the ICAO 201 Flight Dispatcher Program received NVQ accreditation, with the support of the TVEC, National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) and UNESCO International Project on Technical and Vocational Education (UNEVOC).

SriLankan Aviation College General Manager Primal De Silva said: “Our newly NVQ-accredited programs will offer students unparalleled opportunities along their career journey. We are constantly striving to provide the best of aviation education for our students, and this accreditation also adds to our untiring mission to produce the crème de la crème of the next generation of aviation professionals.”

The NVQ status is the latest addition to a long list of approvals that SriLankan Aviation College has successfully secured for its portfolio, consisting of accreditations from multiple distinguished international and local organisations. This list includes the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA); International Air Transport Association (IATA); and the Civil Aviation Authorities of Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Pakistan.

SriLankan Aviation College is now working toward elevating the accreditation to NVQ Level 7, which will make its portfolio equivalent to a bachelor’s degree. The College is also in discussion with the University Grants Commission to establish itself as an UGC approved educational institute.

With over 34 years of experience in aviation training to international standards, SriLankan Aviation College offers a wide range of training options. The college is certified by the EASA, IATA, International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka, Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan and the Civil Aviation Authority of Maldives. It is also a member of the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAES) and the European Aviation Maintenance Training Committee (EAMTC). The college collaborates with world-renowned institutions to extend comprehensive aviation and corporate training programs.
