Korean Ambassador Explores Business Prospects at Hambantota Port

In late May 2025, Miyon Lee, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Sri Lanka, visited the Hambantota International Port (HIP) to evaluate its potential for trade and investment opportunities beneficial to Korean enterprises.

Joined by Deputy Head of Mission Eunji Kang and Researcher Minwoo Jo, Ambassador Lee toured the port’s cutting-edge infrastructure. The delegation received a detailed briefing on HIP’s operational capabilities, recent developments, and the scope of its fully-equipped Industrial Park designed to attract global investors.

The visit included discussions on positioning HIP as a strategic entry point for Korean companies seeking to expand manufacturing and trade across the South Asian region. Emphasizing the port’s readiness for foreign partnerships, the Hambantota International Port Group (HIPG) extended a formal invitation to Korean businesses to participate in upcoming development projects within the port’s rapidly growing industrial zone.
